The current Big Easel project, the Van Gogh Project, will be made up of Seven Easels when complete.
The Canadian Easel
The Canadian Easel, in Altona, Manitoba, was the first finished Easel of
the international Van Gogh Project. The Easel took 2 and a half
years to complete, from the initial idea to the final unveiling.
Countless engineers, construction workers, and volunteers
helped to make this Easel become a reality.
The Canadian Easel has already received enormous media attention
in the local, national and international press. Sixty newspaper
articles in Canada, the United States and abroad have chronicled
the events surrounding the Easel. It now stands
in the Millennium Park in Altona, Manitoba, located one hour
from Winnipeg.
The Australian Easel
The Australian Easel, located in Emerald, Queensland, is the second
in the series. Completed in October 1999, the project
took nearly 2 and a half months to complete.
The Mayor, City Councillors and numerous volunteers devoted an
enormous amount of time to ensure the Easel went up on schedule.
The easel is located in the centre of the city in Morton Park.
Plans are underway to relocate the Pioneer Village to the Easel
site, and also establish a large tourism centre to finish off the
site.
The American Easel
The American Easel is the third painting in The Van Gogh Project. The
Easel is located in Goodland, Kansas; sixteen miles from the Colorado
border. The easel was erected in 2001 and stands 80 feet (25 metres
high).
The Easel is located in a new scenic parkway visible to traffic along
the I-70, which is the major highway connecting New York to Los Angeles.
A souvenir shop with educational exhibits on the history of Van Gogh, as
well as the sunflower, will eventually be located on the premises.
Sunflowers USA Association and numerous volunteers worked diligently to
ensure the easel went up on schedule.
